1 dead, 8 injured after head-on crash in Hopkins County, sheriff says

HANSON, Ky. – The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly crash.

According to a release, deputies responded Sunday afternoon to a head-on collision near 5575 Stagecoach Road (HWY 1069) in Hanson.

Investigators said Deborah Townsell was driving south on Stagecoach Road when she crossed into the northbound lane and slammed head-on into a vehicle driven by Christopher Cook.

Lucian Townsell, a passenger in Deborah Townsell’s vehicle, died at the scene, according to the Hopkins County Coroner.

Authorities said Deborah Townsell suffered severe injuries and was flown to an out-of-state hospital.

Cook and his six passengers also suffered serious injuries and were taken to an out-of-state hospital for treatment.

The investigation remains ongoing.
