30 Workers Evaluated After Chemical Exposure at Franklin County Facility

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. — Thirty workers underwent evaluation and were taken for treatment after a chemical exposure incident at a facility in Franklin County, according to the Franklin County Fire Department.

The department, along with City of Frankfort Fire & EMS and Emergency Management, responded to the hazardous materials incident after a product became aerosolized and caused exposure-related symptoms among employees.

Officials said the building had already been evacuated by the time crews arrived. Six workers initially reported symptoms, including breathing difficulties. Responders separated symptomatic employees from those who were not affected, but the number of impacted workers later rose to 30 as more people began experiencing symptoms.

Crews identified the chemical involved, secured the affected area, and confirmed that no further contamination or exposures occurred, the department said.

“We are thankful for the strong partnership between all responding units and for the efforts of personnel on scene who worked to bring the incident to a safe resolution,” Franklin County Fire Department said.
