Marijuana discovered in trunk of Mercedes after driver runs red light

Marijuana was discovered in the trunk of a Mercedes after the driver ran a red light at State Road 44 and Interstate 75 in Wildwood.

A deputy saw a white Mercedes driving westbound on State Road 44 just east of I-75 near Wildwood around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A check of the license plate revealed that the registered owner, 37-year-old Darrell Keith Nottage of Quincy, had a suspended license.

The vehicle then ran a red light on the I-75 northbound on-ramp, resulting in a traffic stop. When dealing with law officers, Nottage mentioned that he had a court date for his suspended license. He had already been stopped for it, but the deputy was unable to locate the citation that had suspended his driver’s license. According to the study, the incident led him to believe that driving was safe.

At this moment, the deputy smelled marijuana emanating from the vehicle and notified Nottage that he would be checking the inside. Nottage admitted there was marijuana in the car before the deputy discovered his camouflage backpack in the trunk. The report stated that it contained two red baggies labeled “Fanta,” each containing marijuana.

Nottage was detained on accusations of marijuana possession (less than 20 grams), drug equipment possession or use, and driving with a suspended license. He was also issued a ticket for running a red light. The New Jersey native was taken into the Sumter County Detention Center, and his bond was set at $3,000.
