A person died Sunday morning after a fire erupted at an apartment complex in Louisville’s Southside neighborhood.
According to Louisville Fire Capt. Donovan Sims, crews responded to reports of a smoke-filled hallway at an apartment complex in the 100 block of Colonial Oaks Court around 9:47 a.m.
When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from the two-story building and managed to bring the fire under control within five minutes.
Officials said the fire was contained to a single room inside one apartment, and no other residents were displaced.
Sims said firefighters found one occupant dead inside the apartment unit.
Arson investigators determined the cause of the fire was smoking while using oxygen.
