13-year-old boy dies a week after Covington shooting, police say

A 13-year-old boy has died after a shooting that took place in Covington on Friday, April 24, according to Capt. Justin Bradbury, a spokesperson for the Covington Police Department.

Capt. Bradbury said the boy passed away Sunday after spending just over a week at UC Medical Center.

On April 24, officers responded to a reported shooting at an apartment in the 100 block of East 11th Street around 11:30 p.m., Bradbury said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the 13-year-old with a gunshot wound, police said.

Officers reported that they transported the teenager to UC Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

Capt. Bradbury said that 18-year-old Ryan Cupp, of Independence, turned himself in after police issued a warrant for his arrest.

Capt. Bradbury said he faces an assault charge in connection with the shooting of the 13-year-old.
