The John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge will temporarily shut down as crews carry out steel repairs beneath the roadway.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet have announced an upcoming overnight closure of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge in Louisville.
The bridge will close starting at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 8, and will remain shut until 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, according to KYTC officials.
All lanes of I-65 South will be closed just past Exit 1 to U.S. 31 South/Stansifer Avenue/10th Street in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
This work marks the second and final phase of an expansion joint replacement project aimed at maintaining and preserving the bridge.
“The overnight closure is necessary to prevent any bridge movement while contract crews perform steel repairs underneath the roadway. This work involves precision machining, known as line boring, and the bridge must remain free of traffic to ensure the accuracy and alignment of the repairs,” KYTC said in a news release.
