Flight makes emergency landing after tire blows during Louisville takeoff

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Delta flight departing Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport was forced to make an emergency landing Sunday morning after a tire blew out during takeoff.

Natalie Chaudoin, a spokesperson for the airport, said a mechanical issue was reported at 11:30 a.m. shortly after the flight took off en route to Atlanta.

Video of the aircraft returning to the runway showed that one of its tires had blown out.

According to Chaudoin, the plane landed safely on the East Runway with 101 people on board.

The incident led to the closure of the East Runway from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. while the aircraft was moved to the terminal ramp.

Airport officials conducted an airfield inspection, and four flights were diverted to other airports during the closure.
