At least 3 dead after shooting in Adair County as KSP investigates ‘active situation’

Three people were discovered dead at separate homes in Adair County on Monday, and authorities fatally shot a gunman following an hours-long standoff.

The incident began around 11 a.m. CDT when police received a call reporting a shooting and a “disturbance” on Chestnut Grove Road.

When deputies arrived, they learned that 37-year-old Michael Adam Curry had been shot inside the home. His brother had called police.

Ryan Sneed barricaded himself inside the house and fired rounds at responding officers, leaving some of them pinned down until they were rescued.

Police said his gunfire struck patrol cars and even brought down a police drone.

The standoff lasted for hours, and during that time, investigators learned that Sneed had threatened to kill several family members.

Detectives then carried out welfare checks and found two more victims at separate homes: Sneed’s mother, 67-year-old Joyce Sneed, at a residence on Lakeview Drive, and his aunt, 63-year-old Debra Clark, at a residence on Henson Road.

Shortly after 7 p.m., Ryan Sneed exited the home armed with a gun. KSP troopers then opened fire, and he died at the scene.

Investigators then entered the home and also found Curry dead.

No law enforcement personnel were injured.

Authorities are investigating all of the deaths.

Court records show Ryan Sneed had a lengthy criminal history and had been arrested more than 30 times.

He was scheduled to be arraigned in one of his cases next week.
