TARC Offers Free Rides for Thunder Over Louisville 2026

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Transit Authority of River City (TARC) will provide fare-free service on Saturday during Thunder Over Louisville.

TARC officials said five post-Thunder stops will be added, most located within a few blocks of the waterfront. These stops will serve as the only downtown boarding options immediately after the event.

“Providing accessible, worry-free transportation for downtown events is a priority for TARC,” said Executive Director Ozzy Gibson. “Our goal is to make your Thunder Over Louisville travel experience easy and stress-free this year—just hop on the bus, and our TARC team will take care of the rest.”

Officials added that 50 extra buses will operate Saturday to increase frequency and accommodate the expected surge in passengers.

TARC also noted that buses will not make return trips to southern Indiana after 8 p.m. due to bridge closures.

If you plan to use TARC and need help choosing a route, officials advise checking route details in advance.

They also warned that some routes may face delays or detours because of police barricades and heavy pedestrian traffic. Riders with MyTARC cards will not be able to add fare, and MyTARC Mobile users will not need to activate tickets during the fare-free service.
