Lane closures set for I-65 work ahead of summer shutdown
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Crews will carry out more prep work this weekend ahead of the planned summer closure of Interstate 65 in Louisville.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District Five said single-lane closures are scheduled on I-65 North between Grade Lane and the Interstate 264 interchange. Crews will strengthen shoulders in preparation for the upcoming shutdown. Work will begin around 7 p.m. Friday and continue through 6 a.m. Monday.
Officials plan to close a five-mile stretch of I-65 between I-264 and Jefferson Street starting June 1 to allow for the replacement of three bridges. During the closure, traffic will be detoured via I-264 on the west side of Louisville.
Meanwhile, KYTC District Five also announced alternating lane closures on Interstate 265 for routine tunnel washing between Sunday and Wednesday nights. Crews will work from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. between mile markers 35.1 and 37.7. The right lane of I-265 South will close Sunday, followed by the left lane Monday. On I-265 North, the right lane will close Tuesday and the left lane Wednesday. Additional closures may be needed Thursday to complete the work.
All work is weather permitting. Officials urge drivers to remain alert, follow posted signs, and slow down in work zones.
