LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is advising drivers of temporary daytime lane closures on Interstate 71 North and South as part of the I-71 widening and improvement project in Louisville.

Lane closures will occur intermittently from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Monday and continuing through Wednesday, Jan. 14.

The closures will impact the section between the Frankfort Avenue interchange and the I-71/Zorn Avenue interchange.

Overnight lane closures may also take place between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Crews will be installing barrier walls, repairing potholes and completing other work in preparation for upcoming median construction.

Traffic has been shifted to the outside shoulders to keep two travel lanes open in each direction as the project moves into its first phase.

Drivers are urged to follow posted signage, use caution while traveling through the work zone, and plan ahead for potential delays.
