Two Teens Killed in Early-Morning Crash in Clay County, Mississippi

CLAY COUNTY, Miss. — A devastating crash early Sunday morning has left two teenagers dead, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP).

The collision happened around 2 a.m. on West Tibbee Road near Highway 45. Investigators say a 2016 Nissan Altima was traveling east when the driver tried to turn north onto Highway 45. As the car entered the intersection, it was struck by a northbound 2024 Mazda SUV.

The victims, identified as 18-year-old Nia Gates of Nettleton and 19-year-old Christopher Standifer of Prairie, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials have not yet provided an update on the condition of those inside the Mazda.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Clay County Coroner’s Office are investigating the cause of the crash. Authorities say more information will be released as the investigation continues.
