FRANKFORT, Ky. – Attorney General Russell Coleman announced on Friday, October 31, 2025, that his Louisville-based Violent Crime Reduction Team (VRT) secured felony indictments against two individuals in separate gun-related cases.

A Jefferson County Grand Jury indicted Joseph Thomas Williams, 44, and Geoffrey Dewayne Martin, 38, on the following charges:

Joseph Thomas Williams was indicted for:

  • Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon (Class C Felony)

  • Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License (Class B Misdemeanor)

Geoffrey Dewayne Martin was indicted for:

  • Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon (Class C Felony)

The VRT, part of the Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Unit, represents a first-of-its-kind partnership with Louisville city and county officials to tackle violent crime.

Both cases were investigated by the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) and will be prosecuted by Assistant Attorneys General Hammad Khan and Jennifer Hall on behalf of the Commonwealth, in collaboration with Jefferson County Commonwealth’s Attorney Gerina D. Whethers.

Authorities emphasize that the charges are only allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
