LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) — A man was killed in a shooting at a Russell neighborhood club on Oct. 25.
Louisville Metro Police responded around 11:45 p.m. Saturday to Club Cedar, located at 26th Street and Cedar Street. Officers found a man in the club’s parking lot who had been shot in the head. He was taken to UofL Hospital, where he later died.
The victim’s wife identified him as 45-year-old Andrew Cochran.
A woman who lives nearby spoke to WAVE News on the condition of anonymity. She said she left the area shortly before the shooting and felt thankful she did.
“Bullets fly anywhere, everywhere. Just because I wasn’t right there doesn’t mean something couldn’t have happened to me,” she said.
The woman added that violence in the area has become far too common.
“Living in this area is not good for safety. It’s very dangerous, especially for us women and children. We can’t even have our kids outside to play. Some days, we can’t even walk to the store.”
Police found Cochran in the parking lot, which is named in memory of Earl Crawford, who was shot and killed there on Nov. 17, 2024.
“Action is only taken once something has happened, and once it happens, it’s swept under the rug. They don’t get to the bottom of it, so it keeps happening,” the neighbor said.
The LMPD Homicide Unit is leading the investigation. Louisville Metro Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) was also on the scene and has suspended Club Cedar’s liquor license pending investigation.
In a statement, Metro ABC said:
“Louisville Metro Alcoholic Beverage Control has issued an Emergency Suspension Order for Club Cedar following a shooting that occurred at the establishment last night. Our thoughts are with the victim and his family during this difficult time. The incident remains under investigation in coordination with LMPD.
Metro ABC will continue to act swiftly when public safety is at risk and work collaboratively under Mayor Greenberg’s Safe Louisville Plan to address businesses and conditions that endanger the safety of our community.”
The neighbor said she hopes justice will be served.
“I hope they find who did it and get justice. I’m hoping this area gets back to being safe,” she said.
