The family of 6-year-old Logan Tipton, who was brutally stabbed to death during a 2015 home invasion, says they are “sickened” and fearful after learning that the man convicted in connection with the attack has been released early from prison.

Logan’s sister, Koral Tipton, who witnessed the horrifying attack and was injured during the assault, spoke out on The Will Cain Show:

“Me and my siblings, we are fearful of what’s to come next,” she said.

The attacker, Ronald Exantus, 42, was found not guilty of murder by reason of insanity but was convicted of multiple counts of second-degree assault. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison yet served only eight before being released last week, according to online records.

Logan’s mother, Heather Tipton, said the news of his release has left her family devastated and confused.

“I still feel helpless,” she said. “And now he’s out, walking the streets among us. What do we do?”

Koral added,

“It’s like my testimony didn’t matter at all. I saw him killing my brother. And now he’s free? It doesn’t make sense.”

Exantus had traveled from Indiana to Kentucky on December 6, 2015, and entered the Tipton family’s home through an unlocked door. Armed with a kitchen knife, he stabbed Logan as the child slept in his bed. The attack was so violent that the knife blade bent, according to reports.

Despite nearly a decade passing since the tragedy, Heather Tipton continues to push for justice.

“We need help, federally,” she said. “This needs to be something that’s addressed nationwide.”

The case has gained renewed national attention, prompting a statement from White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, which Heather said gives her hope that the tragedy will finally spark change.

“Maybe it took him getting out for people to see what’s going on,” she said. “Something has to be done.”

Meanwhile, Kentucky State Police are investigating threats made against members of the Kentucky Parole Board, following misinformation that the board approved Exantus’ release.

In a statement, the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet clarified:

“The Parole Board did not release Ronald Exantus on parole. Every time it had the opportunity, the board recommended that he remain in prison.”

Under Kentucky law (KRS 439.3406), Exantus was released on Mandatory Reentry Supervision, a system that automatically allows certain inmates to serve the remainder of their sentence under strict community monitoring.

For Logan’s family, however, the release has reopened deep wounds.

“We’re not fully healed,” Heather said quietly. “But I’m stronger now.”
