Families accuse Manhattan School District 114 of discriminating against students with disabilities

Several families in Manhattan, Illinois, have come forward with serious allegations against Manhattan School District 114, claiming that the district has engaged in a pattern of discrimination against students with disabilities.

At the start of the school year, a federal judge issued an order directing the southwest suburban school district to reinstate a 10-year-old girl diagnosed with autism to her neighborhood school. However, months after that judicial ruling, her parents have stated that the underlying problems remain unresolved. Their concerns are no longer isolated, as additional families of students with disabilities within the district have now stepped forward, alleging that discriminatory treatment toward children with special needs is a broader, systemic issue within Manhattan School District 114.
