A Chicago resident is facing kidnapping charges along with multiple additional felonies after authorities reported that he brandished a firearm aboard a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) bus and issued threats toward both the driver and passengers.
According to police, the incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 8:30 p.m., when a man aboard a CTA bus in the 5400 block of South Pulaski Road produced a firearm and ordered the driver to bring the vehicle to a stop. The driver, a 35-year-old woman, complied with the demand, after which the suspect exited the bus by climbing through a window, according to the Chicago Police Department (CPD).
Following his departure from the bus, the man fled on foot to a nearby unoccupied vehicle that had been left with its engine running, entered the car, and drove away at high speed.
Authorities later apprehended the suspect and recovered a firearm in connection with the incident. No injuries were reported as a result of the confrontation.
Quentin Lewis, 36, of Chicago, now faces multiple felony charges, including armed kidnapping, possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated unlawful restraint, and unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Lewis appeared before a judge for his detention hearing on Thursday, at which point he was ordered to remain in custody. No additional information has been made available at this time.
