An Alabama man employed in a Mississippi prison faces aggravated narcotics trafficking charges after deputies seized 10 pounds of suspected methamphetamine during a overnight traffic check on Interstate 10, authorities said.
Just after 1 a.m. Monday, a sheriff’s officer from Harrison County stopped a blue Ford Expedition for a traffic violation near Biloxi’s Mile Marker 43. The driver, 45-year-old Taurus Bush of Alabama, provided both his driver’s license and a correctional officer ID card from East Mississippi Correctional Facility.
Investigators established that Bush works for Management and Training Corporation, a private contractor that supplies penitentiary employment.
During the stop, a United States Border Patrol narcotics K-9 alerted deputies to the vehicle. A later search turned up 10 pounds of a drug that field tested positive for methamphetamine. The recovered narcotics were delivered to the state crime laboratory for conclusive testing.
Deputies apprehended Bush and placed him into the Harrison County Jail on charges of aggravated trafficking. Judge Brandon Ladner placed the bond at $150,000.
