Florida Woman Scratches Her Way To $5 Million Lottery Win

The Florida Lottery reported that a Florida woman won the top prize of $5 million from a scratch-off ticket.

Georgia Smith went to lottery headquarters in Tallahassee on June 30 to pick up her wins from the $20 MEGA 7s game. She elected to receive a one-time lump-sum payment of $3,089,000 rather than regular payments.

The winning scratch-off came from the Murphy USA petrol station at 2769 S.E. Highway 70, Arcadia.

The MEGA 7 game began with a $5 million grand prize and more than $268 million in total cash payouts. The Florida Lottery sets the total odds of winning any prize in the game as one in 3.33.

Under Chapter 24 of the Florida Statutes, lottery winners’ names and hometowns are public record. Following a 90-day waiting period, the state lottery organization will be able to divulge those facts.

The agency states that 99 percent of its earnings is reinvested in the state economy through prize distributions, retailer commissions at over 13,600 locations, and education support. Since 1988, the Florida Lottery has awarded over $110 billion in prizes, created more than 4,900 millionaires, and donated more than $51 billion to public education, including the Bright Futures Scholarship Program.
