A Leesburg man was taken into custody after allegedly slapping his girlfriend and backing into her vehicle during an argument at Circle K.
Around 11:15 p.m. Thursday, officers arrived at Circle K, located at 900 S 14th St., for a probable hit-and-run in connection with a battery involving 30-year-old Tremaine Antonio Gadsden, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. The claimed suspect vehicle, a maroon Ford truck, was heading toward Gadsden’s residence on Gregory Road.
Upon arriving, the cops spoke with Gadsden’s girlfriend, who is also the mother of his two children, as well as her father. The former appeared upset, with redness all over her face. She informed them that they were receiving gas when Gadsden rushed them, running and shrieking. According to the report, she rushed back into the vehicle because she was in an abusive relationship with him and feared for her life.
Gadsden then began a verbal dispute with her while she remained seated in the vehicle. He quickly grabbed her arm and leg, yanking her from the vehicle. When she attempted to de-escalate the situation, he slapped her face through the window, according to the report.
His girlfriend stepped out of the car with a knife to defend herself, chasing Gadsden back to his pickup. He later drove his car right behind theirs as she and her father attempted to flee. According to the report, he backed into their vehicle, targeting his girlfriend.
Gadsden was eventually detained at his home just after midnight on Friday. He was accused of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon (domestic) and two counts of simple violence. He was subsequently placed into the Lake County Jail on a $52,000 bond.
He was also arrested in October 2023 for possessing cocaine.
