Ukraine Supports Proposed Energy Ceasefire Provided Moscow Stops Power Grid Strikes

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on Monday that Ukraine supports a mutual energy ceasefire deal with Russia. He offered to halt deep strikes on Russian oil refineries if Moscow stops targeting Ukraine’s power generation and electrical grid.

Speaking at the Warsaw Security Forum, Zelenskyy addressed the recent diplomatic momentum following a public proposal by U.S. President Donald Trump, who called for a halt to attacks on energy infrastructure.

“We in Ukraine immediately supported this idea,” Zelenskyy said. “Our offer is honest and clear: We are ready to respect an energy ceasefire if Russia is ready to do the same. We agree if they agree, and we have already shown that we mean it.”

Zelenskyy pointed out that while Ukrainian forces held off on targeting Russian refineries overnight, Russian forces launched fresh drone and missile attacks against Ukrainian facilities. According to the Ukrainian leader, overnight strikes hit a power site and a gas station, while repair teams continued working to restore electricity lost in previous assaults.

“If Russia wants us to stop our long-range strikes against its oil refineries and oil exports, then Russia must stop its strikes against our energy system and critical infrastructure and stop killing our people. This is only fair,” he said.

Zelenskyy added that Ukraine is prepared to formalize the arrangement through official channels if required by international partners. “If the Americans need it, we are ready to sign these guarantees to make sure they can be trusted,” he stated.

Russian authorities have not publicly agreed to the terms or confirmed whether they will pause operations against Ukraine’s utility network.
