20-Year-old Missing Chicago Man Found Dead in Well at Rural Ransom Property

A 20-year-old Chicago man who went missing from a construction job in rural La Salle County was discovered dead Monday inside a cistern or well on the farm where he had been working, authorities say. Isaias Gabriel Tirado Ramirez was last seen Saturday evening near Ransom, triggered a search that resulted in a horrific discovery the next afternoon.

Ramirez was last seen around 6:30 p.m. Saturday at 2624 N. 15th Road in Ransom, where he was working with a construction crew, according to countryherald.com. Around 9 p.m. Sunday, the Chicago Police Department reported him missing to the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office, launching a search in the county’s rural stretch some 90 miles southwest of Chicago.

Investigators discovered an unidentified male inside a cistern or well around 4:40 p.m. Monday, according to the publication. According to the same article, an underwater camera assisted in locating the individual, along with the Mendota Fire Department and the MABAS Technical Rescue Team.

According to the same account, the deceased man was identified as Ramirez, 20, of Chicago, following a forensic autopsy on Tuesday. The confirmation came a day after the discovery, bringing an end to the missing-persons investigation that Chicago police had reported to La Salle County deputies only two days before.

According to Shaw Local, investigators have not confirmed whether the death is suspicious. The cause and method of Ramirez’s death have not been reported, and officials have not explained how he ended up within the cistern or the well.

The investigation is still ongoing, according to the report, by the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office, the La Salle County Coroner’s Office, and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services. The La Salle County Emergency Management Agency and the La Salle County State’s Attorney’s Office are also assisting detectives as the case progresses.

The circumstances behind Ramirez’s death are still being investigated, and no additional updates have been published as investigators attempt to put together what transpired in the nearly 48 hours between his last sighting on the working site and his discovery in the well.
