A dentist from Hicksville has been arrested and accused of stealing more than $300,000 from Medicaid by charging for hundreds of dental operations that he reportedly never performed.
Attorney General Letitia James announced the arrest on Monday, alleging that Suleman Nasimi reportedly filed bogus Medicaid claims while on vacation in Europe.
According to the attorney general’s investigation, Nasimi claimed to have performed hundreds of treatments through his Tooth Fresh Meadows business in Queens between January 1, 2020, and August 31, 2024. As a result, numerous of his patients were allegedly denied dental treatment because Medicaid records indicated they had already undergone the surgery.
“Fraudsters who steal from Medicaid with fake billing schemes put vulnerable New Yorkers at risk by making it harder for them to get the care they need,” said James, the attorney general. “All New Yorkers deserve exceptional dental care, and my practice will not accept dentists who prioritize personal gain above their patients. We will continue to hold Medicaid fraudsters accountable and criminally punished when they violate the law.”
Nasimi is accused of billing for more than $140,000 in procedures while his business was closed and he was on vacation, according to the Attorney General’s business.
The 46-year-old and Tooth Fresh Meadows were charged with two separate 40-count felony accusations. Both were charged with grand larceny, health-care fraud, and providing a fake document for filing.
If convicted, Nasimi may face a maximum term of five to fifteen years in state prison.
