TULSA, Okla. — Kids in Tulsa are stepping up to help. On Sunday, a group of children raised money to support the Tulsa Public Schools district.
Earlier this month, we reported on the budget shortfall at Tulsa Public Schools, which could lead to school closures. Over the weekend, a group of kids began selling lemonade and other drinks in an effort to help save some of the schools.
They named the fundraiser “Sip for Schools.” The money raised from the sales will go to The Foundation for Tulsa Schools.
The lemonade stand was set up at Darlington Park, where the girls sold lemonade from 2 p.m. until they ran out of supplies.
On Saturday, local business Mandy’s Fresh Lemonade donated more than 40 bottles of assorted flavored lemonade to the girls. One customer also donated $100.
John Croissant and the co-founder of the Lemon-Aid Project also stopped by the girls’ stand.
By the end of the weekend, the girls had raised more than $1,700. They are now aiming to reach $2,000. The girls also contributed their own money, bringing the total to an even $1,800.
