A 43-year-old man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting in Georgia three years ago was arrested in Jacksonville on Friday afternoon, according to authorities.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office SWAT team apprehended Jonathan Soto in an apartment complex on Gate Parkway North, with support from the Atlanta Police Department and the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force.
Soto was declared one of Atlanta’s most wanted fugitives following the Feb. 4, 2023, murder at the Republic Lounge in Atlanta. Atlanta police detectives investigated the crime and obtained an arrest warrant for Soto, who evaded capture until investigators tracked him down in northeast Florida.
When law enforcement agents surrounded Soto’s residence, he refused to leave, according to officials. SWAT officers then forced their way inside with a forceful door breach. Soto was taken into jail without incident, and no injuries were reported.
Following his arrest, officers placed Soto into the Duval County Jail on an out-of-state fugitive warrant, where he is awaiting extradition back to Georgia.
“We are proud of our partnerships with law enforcement agencies, not just locally but across the country,” the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office stated after the operation. “Working together, we get dangerous fugitives off our streets.”
Jacksonville authorities said they will continue to work with Atlanta investigators as the legal process progresses.
