Akron police are investigating a shooting that injured two men on Wednesday night and resulted in the arrest of a 17-year-old child.
Around 7:34 p.m., officers rushed to the Circle K at 440 W. Market St for a report of multiple shots fired, according to an Akron Police Department release.
Witnesses told police that more than ten rounds were fired before two people in black hoodies fled the scene.
A responding officer later noticed two people matching the suspects’ descriptions in Towpath Trail High School’s parking lot and ordered them to stop, according to police.
One of the suspects, a 17-year-old boy, fled towards West North Street. During the subsequent foot pursuit, police say he threw a loaded pistol with an extended magazine.
The cop seized the revolver and pursued the suspect before apprehending him, according to authorities.
The teenager was detained on suspicion of obstructing official business, carrying hidden weapons, illegal transit or possession of firearms on school grounds, and tampering with evidence. He is being housed at the Summit County Juvenile Detention Centre.
Minutes afterwards, officers discovered that two casualties had been transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Centre.
Both victims were 23-year-old guys with gunshot wounds. Police stated their injuries were not life-threatening.
Detectives from the Akron Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit responded to interview witnesses and investigate the site.
According to police, Crime Scene Unit officers found dozens of shot casings in the Circle K parking lot and on West Market Street.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.
