A traffic stop in Polk County resulted in drug trafficking charges Wednesday evening after a deputy spotted suspected methamphetamine residue on a passenger’s ID card.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy stopped a black Ford vehicle approximately 7 p.m. on September 2, 2026. During the stop, Destinee Loyd, 38, of Lakeland, attempted to leave the vehicle and walk away.
The deputy asked Loyd to return to the car and present identification. When Loyd gave over her ID card, the officer saw a powdery material on it. A field test of the residue confirmed the presence of methamphetamine.
A later search of Loyd’s pocketbook yielded further methamphetamine measuring approximately 15.86 grams.
Deputies arrested Loyd and took her to the Sheriff’s Processing Center. She is charged with first-degree felony trafficking in methamphetamine and first-degree misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
