Three people were apprehended following a copper theft investigation in Portland.
Officers responded to Vibra Specialty Hospital at 10300 Northeast Hancock Street around 9 a.m. on Aug. 25 after receiving a report of people trespassing on the grounds. The hospital closed in January 2026, and police reported multiple burglaries and copper wire theft.
When cops arrived at the hospital, one suspect could be seen fleeing the premises, while another emerged from the building before returning inside.
Officers, accompanied by a K9, searched the area and arrested three suspects: 46-year-old Robin L. Kaus, 45-year-old David A. Mudgett Jr., and 47-year-old Benjamin J. Eisenmann. According to police, a fourth suspect has yet to be located.
Police say they seized a substantial amount of copper that had been coiled and packaged. Officers also discovered burglary tools, such as big cutters and a winch attached to a car battery.
Kaus, Mudgett, and Eisenmann were booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on multiple offenses, including burglary and aggravated theft. Police claimed two of the three individuals were linked to past investigations.
Police said the incident is part of a wider, ongoing investigation into copper thefts. In March, authorities announced the arrest of a key broker who allegedly processed more than $487,000 in metal.
