A woman from Washington, D.C. has been apprehended in connection with a carjacking in Arlington’s Colonial Village neighborhood, the Arlington County Police Department (ACPD) stated on Wednesday.
APD charged Leah Elaine Johnson, 26, of Washington, D.C., with carjacking, while the Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority Police Department charged her with unlawful use of a vehicle and driving without a license.
According to APD, police responded to complaints of a larceny in the 2100 block of 19th Street N on Monday, August 31, at 4:56 p.m. The victim stated that she was strolling in the vicinity when Johnson approached her from behind and attempted to initiate a conversation.
According to police, Johnson followed the victim to her car before threatening her and demanding her keys. She then apparently seized the keys and drove away.
The next day, the Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority Police Department discovered the stolen car and pulled Johnson over, who was then arrested. An initial inquiry tied her to the carjacking the nite before, and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
She was taken to the Arlington County Detention Facility and is being held without bond as of Wednesday.
