Police seize $95,000 from illegal gambling ring at N.J. corner store

Investigators seized over $95,000 from an illegal gambling operation at a corner store in Paterson, the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office said.

Detectives began examining Angels Rosa Parks Food in June after getting tips about illegal gambling and discovered that the store was running an unlawful Dominican Republic lottery, according to the sheriff’s office.

During a check of the store on August 26, authorities discovered receipts and other evidence of unlawful gaming.

The majority of the money was discovered by police in a concealed room in the basement, accessible by a chute beneath the counter.

Paterson residents Alejandro Munoz-Soriano, 44, and Cesar Munoz-Soriano, 42, have been arrested.

Both men were charged with promoting gambling, keeping gambling records, and possessing gambling devices. They were released pending additional court appearances.

The Passaic County Sheriff’s Office stated that the inquiry is underway.
