A 36-year-old Mississippi man received a 40-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to sexual abuse and aggravated domestic violence.
Logan Richard Barber of Lucedale was sentenced by Judge Calvin Taylor to 40 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections’ custody. Barber must serve 25 years day-to-day without parole, followed by 15 years of post-release supervision.
The allegations come from an incident on September 13, 2024, in which authorities responded to a report of an injured woman in a Lucedale trailer park. An investigation indicated that Barber assaulted the girl and held her captive inside a trailer before she was able to flee and seek assistance. Prosecutors stated that Barber was under the influence when he conducted the assault in a jealous rage.
Assistant District Attorneys Ann Morgan Sullivan and CJ Winship prosecuted the case. Sullivan applauded the victim’s bravery throughout the judicial process, as well as the comprehensive investigation by law enforcement.
District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath stated that domestic violence will be prosecuted strictly regardless of the parties’ relationship.
“Being in a relationship does not give you the right to sexually or physically assault your partner,” McIlrath stated. “These acts are intolerable, and this sentence holds him accountable for the violence he chose to inflict.”
