An Indiana man was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison for attempting to receive nearly three pounds of methamphetamine via mail.
According to WANE-15, Douglas Hillsamer, 44, was sentenced on Wednesday in US District Court. He will also serve five years on supervised release following his prison sentence.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Hillsamer anticipated receiving a box containing roughly three pounds of methamphetamine from Fresno, California. The package was intercepted by the United States Postal Inspection Service before it could reach him.
The methamphetamine was found to be approximately 100 percent pure.
Hillsamer pled guilty to attempting to possess methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. Prosecutors said he admitted the narcotics were meant for him and that he intended to distribute them.
Hillsamer had previous felony convictions for methamphetamine possession and violation of privacy, according to federal authorities.
The Drug Enforcement Administration, Indiana State Police, and the United States Postal Inspection Service were all involved in the investigation.
