A man illegally in the U.S. was arrested in Central Florida for a violent attack on a pregnant woman and a child, according to local law enforcement.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested the Guatemalan man near Lake Wales, Central Florida, after he physically abused his pregnant girlfriend and tossed her 18-month-old child to the ground.
According to the arrest complaint, the first deputy on scene discovered 20-year-old Gerber Alexander Bamaca Perez standing over the woman, his hands locked into fists while she screamed for assistance. Despite some resistance, Bamaca Perez was arrested right away.
The victim, who was 27 weeks pregnant with the suspect’s child, had considerable bruising on her face, throat, and chest, according to local authorities.
In addition to choking and hitting the victim with his fists, Bamaca Perez was accused of picking up and smashing the victim’s toddler to the ground. According to local enforcement, the little girl suffered no obvious injuries.
During the incident, the adult victim attempted to contact 9-1-1 for assistance, but the suspect grabbed the phone from her hand.
Both victims were transported to a hospital for evaluation and treatment.
“This illegal alien brutally attacked a woman and a toddler—he should have been defending women and children, not attacking them,” stated Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. “We hope that neither of these victims will sustain any permanent bodily harm. During an interview with police from the Special Victims Unit, the suspect admitted to having rage problems, which is an understatement.”
Gerber Alexander Bamaca Perez was charged with Tampering with a Victim in a Second Degree Felony, Domestic Violence Aggravated Battery on a Pregnant Victim, Child Abuse without Great Bodily Harm, Possession of Counterfeit Identification, and Resisting without Violence.
According to local authorities, an ICE hold has been put on Bamaca Perez.
