A 42-year-old Montgomery, Alabama, man was taken into custody Sunday night after a car pursuit across Walton County that included a PIT manoeuvre and Taser deployment.
Just before 8 p.m., a Walton County Sheriff’s officer attempted to perform a traffic stop on a white Mercedes-Benz vehicle speeding westbound on Highway 98 in Santa Rosa Beach. The motorist, Leon Edward Carr, bolted from the officer rather than stopping.
Minutes afterwards, a sheriff’s serjeant saw the vehicle going south on North County Highway 283. The serjeant proceeded to prevent the Mercedes from returning to Highway 98, but Carr attempted to pull away. The serjeant then used a PIT technique to immobilise the vehicle.
Deputies held Carr at gunpoint and then used a Taser on him before taking him into custody.
Carr was arrested on allegations of driving under the influence, refusing to take a DUI test, fleeing and eluding, driving with a suspended licence, and two counts of obstruction.
