5-year-old Girl fatally struck by car while crossing street with family on Friday night

A 5-year-old girl died after being hit by a car while crossing the street with her family in east Columbus on Friday night.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, at around 11:12 p.m., a vehicle moving eastbound on East Broad Street at the junction of Outerbelt Street collided with a 5-year-old pedestrian who was crossing the road with family members.

The child was taken to a local hospital in severe condition and eventually confirmed dead. She has now been identified as Gem Scott.

Police said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, which is still ongoing.
