Newark detectives detained two people on charges of possessing and making sexually explicit material involving minors, and authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in locating additional victims.
According to the Newark Police Department, Brianna Nethers and John Nethers secretly taped sexually explicit recordings of teenagers and women. On June 24, detectives raided their residence and seized cell phones and computers.
According to court records, one of the videos obtained on their cellphone shows Brianna entering a public restroom in Newark and setting up a covert camera in her purse. The video then shows her reportedly dragging a young boy into the restroom and performing oral sex on him, according to court records. Police say they recognized the victim, who was 13 years old.
“John Nethers is accused of uploading and editing the videos on his laptop.” Newark Deputy Chief of Police, John Brnjic, stated that both suspects are demons who target children. Katie Bartholow, a Newark resident, said, “It’s very disturbing and scary to think that that’s going on in a small town like this.”
According to court filings, investigators discovered a 30-minute video of multiple ladies and underage girls using the bathroom. Brianna has been accused of using a covert camera in the stall next to them. We know they’ve done it in a variety of locations, and I believe they’ve been doing it for at least three years, if not more, in terms of the female’s behavior,” said Deputy Chief Brnjic. “The male is probably even longer.”
Deputy Chief Brnjic stated that the tapes were filmed in Heath and Newark but did not provide specific locations. There are public venues that you and I and everyone else go to that are just ordinary informal settings, with nothing distinguishing them from any other public area,” he said.
According to Deputy Chief Brnjic, there may be further victims who are not yet identified. He stated that the number of casualties is unknown due to their diverse nature. I don’t want to have to wonder, ‘Is my younger sister going to go into a bathroom, and will there be a video of her doing anything on somebody’s computer?’ “You know, it’s gross,” observed one Newark resident.
Along with recording random people in the restroom, detectives claimed the suspects met some of the victims online and on social media. Deputy Chief Brnjic emphasizes the need for parents to monitor their children’s online activities, especially gaming, and the people they communicate with. “People who prey on young children are just disgusting,” Bartholow stated.
