The man who was shot inside a Las Vegas Walmart last week is now facing domestic violence charges, according to police and court documents.
Kwame Swain, 28, was charged in absentia with three misdemeanor counts of domestic abuse and one felony count of attempted coercion constituting domestic violence.
According to a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police arrest record, an officer was dispatched to an apartment complex office on Monday, July 20, for a domestic battery incident.
A woman told the officer that her boyfriend, Swain, discovered “things in her phone that he did not like,” according to the report. He allegedly forced her onto their bed, smacked her in the face, dragged her across the floor by her hair, and kicked her in the face many times.
She claimed that he attempted to remove her “phone from her pocket and ripped her pants in the process,” according to police. The officer noticed many small injuries on her face, including scrapes with minimal blood and a puffy eye.
Police scoured the area for Swain but were unable to locate him, and his girlfriend rejected to be brought to the hospital.
The next day, authorities discovered that Swain had been shot inside a Walmart on Boulder Highway and Nellis Boulevard. A police officer shot and killed the gunman, 35-year-old Travis Ward, outside the store.
Officers apprehended Swain in the hospital. According to court records, he remains hospitalized as a result of his injuries and has been unable to appear in court.
His next court date is scheduled for August 3.
