An Indianapolis man was taken into custody after allegedly shooting at a vehicle during a road rage incident.
On July 11, an IMPD detective was alerted to a shooting on the Interstate 70 eastbound ramp from North West Street/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street/11th Street.
According to court documents, at 12:47 p.m., Indiana State Police received a 911 call from a vehicle who had just merged onto the interstate as he left downtown Indianapolis.
According to police, the caller reported that a black Mercedes-Benz approached their Dodge Durango, with a back passenger lowering the window, displaying a gun, and allegedly shooting at their vehicle.
After receiving the 911 call, ISP troopers were dispatched to a petrol station at I-70/Emerson Avenue, where the victims had stopped. According to authorities, when troopers arrived, they identified the driver and a passenger.
During the body-worn camera interview, the victims stated that they were leaving a cheering competition downtown and had just reached a merging point while approaching the highway. They reported that a black Mercedes with heavily tinted windows was driving alongside them as they merged.
According to court filings, following an initial incident that included horn honking, the Mercedes pulled alongside their vehicle again. According to the victims, the back passenger dropped the window, revealed a black revolver, nodded, and fired a single shot toward the ground in front of their automobile.
The victims, who claimed to have children in their car, said they immediately pulled over to the shoulder to remove themselves from the Mercedes as it proceeded continuing.
According to court documents, the victims described the suspect’s vehicle and a white and red license plate, which the trooper identified as an Indiana “In God We Trust” plate.
ISP then launched an investigation and proceeded to the ramp where the shooting occurred. According to police, no cartridge casings or evidence were found on the ramp.
Police investigated Flock Safety traffic cameras on North West Street in the area, and the victim was spotted in the center lane approaching the traffic light. A black Mercedes, matching the victim’s description of the shooting suspect’s vehicle, was spotted in the left lane, just ahead of the victim’s car.
The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles later identified the registered owner of the black Mercedes as a 20-year-old guy.
