Man sentenced to 5 years of probation after stabbing and killing dog

The Erie County District Attorney’s Office reports that 21-year-old Emery S. Kawski, formerly of Tonawanda, has been sentenced for stabbing and murdering a dog.

According to the district attorney’s office, on February 24, 2025, Kawski repeatedly stabbed a four-year-old Boston Terrier in the abdomen.

Officers discovered “Pop Rocks” dead inside a garbage tote outside a nearby residence. A knife found in Kawski’s kitchen tested positive for canine blood.

In March 2026, Kawski pled guilty to one count of severe animal cruelty. He was sentenced to five years’ probation.

The district attorney’s office stated that the court also imposed a lifetime order forbidding Kawski from owning, sheltering, or having custody or control of any animal.
