Lakeland Man Detained After Alleged Road Rage Gun Threat On Us 92

A 20-year-old Lakeland man was detained early Wednesday morning after a reported road rage incident near Auburndale, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Latravious Lanier is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon without intent to murder, a third-degree felony.

The incident started around 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. Sheriff’s deputies responded to Taylor driving in Auburndale after a victim reported a driving rage incident. According to police, the victim was driving east on US 92 with his wife and young child when a gray 2010 Toyota Camry cut in front of him.

The victim responded to the maneuver by honking his horn. When both vehicles came to a halt at a red light, the driver of the Camry allegedly pointed a weapon at the victim and his wife before fleeing the scene.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office identified the driver as Lanier and issued an arrest warrant.

Deputies executed the warrant at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at a residence on Providence Road in Lakeland. Lanier surrendered to deputies at his house without incident.

Lanier was taken to the Sheriff’s Processing Center for booking. According to records, Lanier has been arrested once before for violence.
