On Saturday, June 13, 2026, at around 11:30 p.m., Corporal Alexander Shadis spoke with a woman in the front lobby of the Oxford Police Department about a domestic dispute involving her husband, Daniel Socia, the father of her two children.
“[The reporting party] told me that their relationship had been tumultuous and had problems, and she was looking to start filing for divorce,” Corporal Shadis stated. “The two have been physical with each other in the past, and she said that he has thrown her phone in the woods before, hidden her purse, and would be vulgar towards her.”
The reporting party informed Corporal Shadis that Socia had returned home from a night out with friends around 15 minutes before her arrival at the police department.
According to investigators, Daniel S. Socia, 40, lives in Oxford, Massachusetts.
“When he arrived back home, [the reporting party] was with their 4-year-old son sleeping on the couch,” Corporal Shadis stated. “She went outside to chat with Daniel, away from their children. [The reporting party] stated that when she leaned up against the truck, Daniel slammed her with his chest into her in an angry manner.”
The reporting party stated that she separated herself from Socia and headed inside, while Socia pursued her, shouting insults and swearing at her.
“[The reporting party] said at one point Daniel took her eyeglasses off her face and smashed them on the ground by throwing them on the floor,” Corporal Shadis reported. “She told me that the children may have witnessed parts of the exchange but is unsure of exactly what was seen and when.”
Corporal Shadis stated that he then went to the residence with Sergeant Kenneth Mead and Officer Jeffrey White to investigate what had happened between the two.
“I introduced myself to Daniel, who was outside smoking a cigarette.” He described the disagreement as heated, and [the reporting party’s] glasses came off her face,” Corporal Shadis explained. “Daniel admitted to ‘slamming’ the glasses on the ground. Daniel informed me that [the reporting party] supposedly placed her hands on him the other day, but nothing was reported. Based on the facts I gathered, I judged that Daniel was the principal aggressor this evening.
Corporal Shadis then notified Socia that he was under arrest for the incident and handcuffed him.
“I transported Daniel to the Oxf” rd Police Department for booking without incident,” Corporal Shadis said. “I gave [the reporting party] her domestic rights and inquired if she needed medical attention, but she declined. After outlining her rights, [the reporting party] decided to initiate the emergency court response and seek an abuse prevention order. Hon. Mark Gildea granted the injunction at 12:44 a.m. “
Corporal Shadis stated that he issued Socia with a copy of the abuse prevention order shortly after the booking process.
Corporal Shadis stated that Sergeant Mead and Officer White retr” eved two properly stowed guns, including a Marlin. Socia’s Massachusetts license to carry was taken, along with his 22-caliber rifle and a Glock 22.40-caliber handgun.
“While in the residence, officers were unable to locate the broken eyeglasses to photograph for this report,” Corporal Shadis stated. “An oral report was made to the Department of Children and Families due to the presence of children during the incident, and a written report was faxed to the local office.”
According to Corporal Shadis, bond commissioner Greg Benoit set Socia’s bond at personal recognizance, which became effective after the requisite six-hour cooling period. Socia was placed in a holding cell in the meantime.
Daniel S. Socia, 40, from Oxford, was accused of the following:
- Assault & Battery on Family/Household Member
- Vandalize Property
Socia was arraigned at Dudley District Court on June 15, 2026. Following his arraignment, he was freed on personal recognizance with the condition that he follow the abuse prevention order. Socia’s next court appearance is a preliminary hearing set for July 23, 2026.
