A man was apprehended for a traffic crash that killed a pedestrian in Central Florida.
Deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office responded to a car crash involving a pedestrian near the intersection of South County Road 39 and Tipton Road in Plant City.
During the investigation, deputies discovered that two pedestrians were crossing the street when the motorist, 27-year-old Daniel Mariano Jr., changed lanes into the northbound lane and struck one of them in the roadway.
Deputies discovered that the motorist did not immediately stop before contacting 911 to report hitting a pedestrian. The driver was later found many miles distant from the incident site.
The 19-year-old victim, who was from Plant City, was taken to a local hospital where he died of his injuries.
Deputies made contact with Mariano and discovered indicators of intoxication, including considerable damage to his truck, according to law officials.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Mariano was arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Accident and Violation of Probation – Resist With Violence.
