2 men taken into custody after methamphetamine found in Callaway County traffic stop

A Holts Summit man and a Henley man were taken into custody Thursday after deputies allegedly found methamphetamine during a traffic stop in Callaway County.

On July 9, at 9:09 p.m., Callaway County deputies staged a traffic stop on County Road 363.

Johnathon M. Cook, 42, drove, and Wesley H. Mercer, 55, was the passenger.

Deputies requested consent to search the vehicle, but both males refused.

Court documents reveal that officers learned the vehicle belonged to someone else and asked for proof of insurance.

A K9 arrived on the scene and alerted deputies to the presence of drugs while they were doing so.

Deputies examined the vehicle and discovered a box containing two individually wrapped bags of meth.

According to court filings, the combined weight of both bags was 1.5 ounces (42 grams).

Both males were booked into the Callaway County Jail.

Cook, who is being jailed on a $50,000 bond, has been charged with second-degree drug trafficking.

Mercer, who is being jailed on a $25,000 bond, has also been charged with second-degree drug trafficking.
