The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged a former church treasurer accused of stealing $400,000.
According to the warrant, Latrise Seward committed the offense of breach of trust with fraudulent intent, valued at $10,000 or more, on January 1, 2018, and August 29, 2025, while serving as treasurer of Mechanicsville United Methodist Church in Lee County.
She is accused of exploiting her access to the church’s bank accounts to make unlawful personal transactions worth $402,655.45.
Investigators said Seward admitted to making the purchases.
She’s been booked into the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.
The Third Circuit Solicitor’s Office will prosecute the case.
