Police: Norwich Man Taken Into Custody After Shooting Person Outside Canterbury Home

A 59-year-old Norwich man was taken into custody after shooting someone outside a home on Hansen Road Saturday evening, according to police.

The victim suffered minor injuries, Connecticut State Police stated Monday.

Police said they received reports of an altercation that resulted in someone being shot in the roadway around 10:40 p.m. Saturday. Police identified the suspect as Michael Burgess, who was charged with discharge of a firearm, second-degree breach of peace, criminal use of a weapon, first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, and first-degree armed threat.

Burgess is being held under a $750,000 surety bail for the assault charge, according to police.

Police did not give any other information, including the events that led to the shooting. Burgess’s mugshot also shows bruising on his face, which police would not explain.
