A former NCAA athlete was sadly discovered dead in the Pacific Ocean at the age of 34 years.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that a woman’s body was discovered floating in the ocean on June 18 near the 5000 block of Newport Avenue, close to the Ocean Beach Pier. Tragically, the woman has now been identified.
Summer Nash, a volleyball player at San Diego State and Florida International University, was identified as the victim.
Nash became a coach after finishing her playing career. She coached a variety of teams, including Tamarack Beach Volleyball Club, Torrey Pines High School, Mira Costa College, San Diego State University, and WAVE Beach Volleyball Club.
Coach Deitre, Nash’s previous coach, issued a comment following her former athlete’s untimely death.
