Seville man arrested and charged in 26-year-old Summit County rape

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) identified the suspect in a 26-year-old Summit County cold case, and he was charged and taken into custody Thursday.

According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, BCI used a preserved DNA sample to identify 48-year-old Anthony D. Collins of Seville, Ohio, as the suspect in the February 2000 cold case.

The Summit County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the crime occurred on February 15, 2000, when a 26-year-old lady was raped by an unknown guy in Green, Ohio.

A sexual assault collection kit was completed, and the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation.

Investigators established that the attack took place inside the victim’s automobile at an unknown location in or around Green.

Detectives could not identify the culprit at the time.

The kit was sent to BCI, where the DNA sample was found but not linked to any suspects, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

BCI identified Collins as the culprit in January 2026, when the DNA sample was uploaded to the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System.

The Summit County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the Summit County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau has resumed the investigation.

The Summit County Prosecutor’s Office reviewed both the first and the additional investigations and issued criminal charges.

Collins was detained on Thursday and charged with rape, a first-degree crime.

He is being held at the Summit County Jail.
