A 20-year-old Wildwood man who allegedly threatened to “shoot up” his family’s home was taken into custody Sunday following a violent altercation with police.
Jacareon Travonte Douglas was arrested by the Wildwood Police Department on a misdemeanor charge of resisting an officer without violence.
Officers were summoned to a home on Gray Street about 10:30 a.m. to investigate a 911 hang-up call. According to the arrest report, dispatchers could hear a juvenile in the background and another individual discussing a firearm before the caller sought law enforcement and quickly disconnected.
When officers arrived, they met Douglas’ aunt and grandmother. The aunt was visibly agitated and having a panic attack, so emergency medical personnel were called to the site. She informed authorities that Douglas had returned home after being out all night, appeared to be intoxicated, and threatened to “shoot up this place.” She also stated she witnessed him take an unidentified gray object from his car.
While officers were conducting an investigation, Douglas exited the house and approached a vehicle. Officers approached him, stated that they were investigating the incident, and attempted to conduct a weapons pat-down for officer safety.
Douglas repeatedly told authorities, “Don’t touch me,” before attempting to go back toward the house. When cops attempted to detain him, he aggressively resisted by pulling away, straightening his upper body, locking his arms, and shouting profanities.
After a lengthy fight, cops were able to place him in handcuffs. However, Douglas fell limp on purpose and became “dead weight,” causing cops to physically drag and carry him to the patrol vehicle. He continued to kick, yell, and physically struggle as officers forced him into the rear car, and he remained hostile throughout the ride to jail.
Officers on the scene were eventually unable to confirm any additional specifics about the firearm claims, thus no weapon-related charges were brought.
Douglas was detained at Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting a $1,000 bond.
