A 74-year-old Miami woman was taken into custody on Wednesday after attempting to attack one of her neighbors with a wooden stool over a package dispute, authorities said.
According to an arrest report from the Miami Police Department, police arrived on the scene at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and saw the defendant, Alfrada Barbara Garcia, being examined by paramedics due to many scratches on her face.
According to police, Garcia stated she was assaulted by the victim after witnessing the suspect retrieve a package from the mailbox that did not belong to her.
According to police, Garcia and a witness, who owned the item, confronted the victim, but she returned the parcel and said she only had it since it was delivered to the wrong location.
According to the investigation, video obtained by property management shows Garcia going along the sidewalk before running over to a little wooden stool chair, pulling it up over her head, and swinging it multiple times at the victim downward.
According to police, the victim was able to seize the stool from Garcia before pulling her to the ground and holding her down.
Garcia stated that the victim punched her in the back before she picked up the stool; however, the witness informed police that Garcia was never assaulted by the victim.
Garcia was detained for attempted aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
As of Thursday afternoon, she was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $5,000 bond.
