Man acquitted in Young Dolph murder case detained on new charges

Hernandez Govan, who was acquitted last year in the high-profile murder of Memphis rapper Young Dolph, has been detained on additional charges, according to the Memphis police department.

MPD said officers of the department’s Fugitive Unit apprehended the 47-year-old on Thursday, June 11, near Getwell Road and American Way.

Police said a warrant was obtained on June 10 charging Govan with harassment and stalking.

According to investigators, the allegations originate from a domestic altercation that occurred on June 4. Police allege that Govan repeatedly harassed the woman, threatened to shoot her, and threatened to post pornographic details about her on social media.

Govan was arrested without incident and charged with harassment and stalking.

The arrest comes less than a year after a Shelby County jury ruled Govan not guilty of all counts in the 2021 assassination of Memphis rapper Young Dolph, real name Adolph Thornton Jr. The jury deliberated for three hours before acquitting Govan of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in August 2025.

Following his acquittal, Govan thanked the jury, his family, and friends, stating he had maintained his innocence throughout the process and was grateful to be free. The verdict brought to a conclusion one of the last significant prosecutions in connection with the rapper’s murder.

The latest charges are unrelated to the Young Dolph murder investigation.
